Domnista is a traditional village in the region of Evrytania, which is located on the slopes of the mountain and preserves the authenticity and tradition of the place. The village is built at an altitude, offering stunning views of the lush green nature and the surrounding mountainous areas.

On 7/6/1942, the chief captain of ELAS Aris Velouchiotis, accompanied by nine guerrillas, declared in the village square the beginning of the armed struggle against the occupiers. Domnista in collaboration with the Municipality of Karpenisi, holds an event every year in June at the site of the National Resistance Monument.

Also during the years of the Revolution, Georgios Karaiskakis was hosted in Domnista for 3-4 months by the chieftains Gioldassiai, who recovered due to the altitude, oxygen and clean air.

Domnista has a rich cultural heritage:

1. The Farmakideion Folklore and Historical Museum.

2. The Cultural Center houses the community library with approximately 15,000 books as well as an exhibition of old local photography.

3. The church of Agios Athanasios (patron saint of the village) with its rare wood-carved iconostasis.

4. The chapel of Prophet Elias, located in a beautiful natural environment of centuries-old pines, oaks and firs with a very large plateau.

5. The chapel of Agios Paisios (at the location of “Psilos Stavros”), which is surrounded by large firs.

6. Lake “Zireli” which is seasonal.

The following events take place in Domnista:

a. The Holy Spirit weekend includes the “Evrytania Trail Races” mountain running races of 6, 12, 20, 30, 60 km, as well as the Panhellenic Mountain Running Championship of SEGAS.

b. On 20/7, a divine service is held in the chapel of Prophet Elias and in the evening a festival is held in the village square.

c. On 15/8, a cultural event with traditional dances is held in the village square by the Filoproodos Domnistas Association.

d. On the last weekend of October, the Filoproodos Domnistas Association, in collaboration with the local community, the Municipality of Karpenisi and the Sub-region, organizes the big event “The Tsipouro Festival” in the village square.

e. On the 6th of January, the blessing of the waters takes place at the “Krikellopotamos” bridge.

Domnista was a large commercial village until a few years ago. Today, two more businesses – Grocery stores – operate.

Also in the village square is the community guesthouse “Fantino”. In addition, there is the private wooden mountain guesthouse “Yliessa”, as well as rooms to rent.

In addition, there is a football, basketball, volleyball court and a playground.

A walk in the village, a hike along the forest paths, an escape to “Pantavrechi”, are just a few options for visitors.

At any time of the year, Domnista with its taverns awaits you, to taste the traditional flavors while drinking a glass of tsipouro or wine.
